Using Asian Closet Doors To Create A Space All Your Own
Part of the appeal of remodeling a home is the chance to design a one of a kind look that reflects who you are and the things you love. Where else but in your own home can you create a type of space that is quite literally all about you? Of course there's also the increased resale value that certain remodels can add to your home's price, but for many homeowners this is a secondary bonus. For these people, the true value lies in having a space that feels like home.
And for those who love the look of Oriental inspired design, an essential element of any remodel is going to be Asian closet doors. Inspired by the doors used in traditional Asian architecture, Asian doors can be used not only on closets, but also as dividers for large spaces, screen off certain portions of a room, or as entry doors between rooms. Generally made of traditional woods and rice paper screens, Asian doors, known traditionally as Shoji doors, provide soft light and privacy.
Now, in the past the only way to get Korean and other Asian doors was to buy them from import retailers. But thanks to an increasing interest in traditional Chinese and Japanese designs, there are now many craftsman right here in the US who are crafting traditional inspired Asian closet doors. Some work in woods native to China, Korea and other Asian countries such as bamboo and cherry tree, while others work in woods native to the US. Naturally the Asian inspired doors made from native US woods are less expensive in price than the doors made from imported Asian woods.

Aside from their beauty, one thing that draws people to Asian closet doors is the ease in which they add a traditional Asian design element to homes that are western in design. While some remodels can go so far as to tear a room down to the studs, other remodeling projects are less expansive. For these projects, it may not be feasible to tear out a traditional door and install an Asian door. But the existing door can be decorated with Asian inspired themes, and a sliding Asian closet door can be used to tie the theme together. |
